Default Guilds after release

If I am in a guild now, will that guild be wiped after the new release?
In other words, will it have to be reformed ? Start all over ?

If this has been answered before, I didn't see it... sorry.

The general consensus is that guilds will remain intact at release, just as your character names will be reserved.

I believe the ladder will be reset, but not the guilds.

Character names will stay, but the character itself will say bye-bye.

Possibly. They'll either just reset your characters to starting state, in which case they remain, or they may be turned into "placeholders" like in the January wipe, in which case really only your name has been saved, you'll have to go through the character creation screens to recreate the character with that name. So the characters may or may not go bye-bye. Not that it really matters either way...

last time they wiped, guilds were gone. personally, i do not see it being very fair if there were bunches of people do not have to go through the effort/cost of establishing a guild in retail while folks who didnt play in the BWEs would.

i just realized that and i AGREE
the fact is that there are, IMO, quite a few guilds.....
A LOT OF GUILDS!
i dont like it
how can you have an enemy guild if there are so many to choose from?
plus alot of guilds bought and earned their capes guilds and guild halls a while ago during the previous betas
and now the rest of us have to work HARD for it
i also think guilds should be taken off
and people should have to earn one the hard way that way there arent any guilds made by people who just want to go to a place and scream "LOOKING FOR PEOPLES @ BE IN MIE GILD!!!!"
and then all they do is say "what now?"
the only groups, IMO, that should be guilds is a group of friends or serious players

Actually, I thought that guild names were going to be reserved. Much like the way that character names would be reserved.. let me dig up that quote from Gaile..

EDIT: Whew, ok. Searched a bit and found it.

This is a quote from Loviatar quoting Gaile:

Guys,

I believe last time I checked, Guild Names will be preserved from the Beta Weekend Events into the release version of Guild Wars. No need for a petition, we got ya covered.

Hmm ... so are they reserved so that we can create them first, or is the actual guild remaining?

Well, since Gaile said "Guild Names" instead of "Guilds," I would say that it's just the names only. That would make sense, after all. So yes, only the names should be reserved for you.

Of course, my word is far from official. Logically, though, the guild name reservation system would work along the same lines of the character name reservations.

The bonus here is that you may get a chance to choose a different hall if you weren't satisfied with the one you used in beta. I love all the extra guild maps, lots of diversity!

Actually, that doesn't make sense. If she said "Guild Names", it means guild names will be reserved. It implies nothing at all whatsoever about whether guilds will be preserved or not. Maybe yes, maybe no, but nothing in the text quoted from Gaile implies one or the other.

But if it works along the same lines as character name reservations, it would imply the guilds will be in some form preserved. To date, their method of reserving character names has been to maintain the continued existence of a character with that name. That's why, during the January wipe, when they couldn't simply reset people's characters due to certain changes, they inserted "placeholder" characters with the appropriate names.

My guess would be, based on how things have been done so far by them, and what options exist, that they'll keep the guilds, but they'll essentially be fresh-started guilds. You'll loose your guild cape and guild hall, and have to do whatever it takes to get those items now. It may also be that only the guild leader will still be in the guild, and everyone else will need to be reinvited. No idea if this will be the case or not, but if I was a betting man, I'd put my money on it working like that.

unless there has been some news i missed, that's wrong. guilds will be whiped. it wouldn't exactly be fair to have a free guild after release now that they are supposedly so hard to start now would it?

Nope no harm done, but you were in fact wrong about saying the world will never know.

We will know but we dont know.

Understand?

I guess I wasn't very clear. When I said "it makes sense," I meant that it makes sense that only the names would be preserved, based on the current system -- not based on a close reading and disection of Gaile's words.

As for whether or not the "guilds will be in some form preserved," I guess that is where our definition of what a guild is differs. You have to remember also that in the January wipe, those placeholder characters were also all male, burly warriors. Sure, we still had some sort of character using the names, but from what I could remember, the only option was to delete and recreate using the one hour name reservation system set up by ANet. That, in my mind, is a "name preserved" only system -- the fact that there's a pixelated character holding that name doesn't matter, as it's still only a "placeholder."

In other words, the "fresh-started guilds" could be seen as sort of a placeholder. 100 gold isn't much, at all. As I believe that the essence of a guild consist of members, a cape, and a guild hall much more than a tag, that 100 gold used to actually register the guild seems almost negligible (a freebie, if you will, especially compared to the cost of the cape and the sigil), and the tag can be seen as a parallel to that gruff-looking warrior name placeholder in the Jan BWE. To put it another way, the guild name reservation system would roughly work along the same lines of the character name reservations.

So, since you'd put your money on that idea.. aren't we just agreeing?
